Details about our Ye Olde Tavern Tours, Freedom Trail

Our Guides

  • The tour was conceived by a historian with a PhD in American history, who specializes in Boston's Revolutionary history and loves drinking beer. She recently wrote a book about Boston during the American Revolution. Read more about Brooke, the company's founder, on the About page.
  • Our guides are what makes Ye Olde Tavern Tours so special. All of tour guides have strong backgrounds in history (at least a Bachelor's in History and most have studied at the PhD level), so you're sure to have the most knowledgeable guides in Boston. Read more about the guides on our About page. That's us to the right!

What You'll See, Learn, and Drink

  • We stop at three taverns and see ten historic sites on the Freedom Trail. (The Freedom Trail is a red brick road that begins at Boston Common and extends to Charlestown with significant historic sites dotting the route. Our tour begins at Boston Common and ends near Faneuil Hall.) You'll see all of the essential historic sites in Boston.
  • You'll learn about the history of the American Revolution in Boston and the history of drinking and taverns.
  • You'll be offered a variety craft beers from New England breweries. Our guides have done a lot of research on which are the best beers to offer (wink).

Logistics

  • We limit each tour's capacity to a small group of people, making it easier to interact with one another and the city.
  • Ye Olde Tavern Tour is a guided walking tour that lasts between two and two and a half hours.
  • We'll be walking for a little over a mile on the way to taverns and historic sites.
  • The ticket price includes a beer at each of three taverns where we stop.
  • All participants must be 21 years of age and sign a liability waiver before they attend.

Where the tour begins (and ends)

  • The tour begins at Boston Common on the corner of Park Street and Tremont Street underneath the sign labeled Boston Common. See the picture of the sign below. This spot is easily accessible by the T (subway). See the map at the bottom of this page for the location. Visit www.mbta.com for more information about Boston's public transportation.
  • The tour ends near Faneuil Hall, a short walk to another T stop (Haymarket) and many restaurants and bars.

Meet your guide under this sign on Boston Common on the corner of Park Street and Tremont Street. Please arrive ten minutes before the scheduled tour. (There is more than one of these signs on Boston Common, so please check the cross streets.)
